THE CUTTY SARK |
The Cutty Sark, a tea
clipper was launched on the river Clyde in 1869. However, it
was in 1870 that it started its adventurous service. It sailed
the seas to China to transport tea, but with the opening of
Suez Canal it was diverted to wool trade. After 25 years of
its involvement in English enterprises, the Cutty Sark was
acquired by the Portuguese. But in 1922, thanks to the Captain
WILFRED DOWNMAN, the vessel was returned to England. |
